Post Operative Care After Your Sinus Lift Surgery.

Dr. Slavin discusses the Sinus Lift Procedure, also known as a Sinus Arthroplasty, post operative care instructions to speed up your recovery time and reduce discomfort.

We Are Available 24 Hours A Day, Seven Days A Week

First, our office number 561-833-6880 and we are available for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  So please call our office number anytime for any questions.  And you’ll either reach Dr. Slavin directly or our staff to help answer your questions.

Use An Ice Pack Under The Eye Often

One of the most important things to keep in mind is the use of an ice pack, which should be placed beneath your eye and next to your nose in the area where the procedure was performed. The ice should be used constantly for the next two to three days.

It’s not uncommon for patients to develop significant swelling or redness, as well as sometimes black and blue beneath the eye. That is all pretty normal.

Sleep With Your Head Elevated

You should sleep with your head elevated by a couple of pillows. Please refrain from laying flat without elevation from a couple of pillows. Sleeping with your head elevated allows your swelling and discomfort to decrease while also minimizing the risk of developing a black eye in the area.

Do Not Blow Your Nose For 10 Days

It is important that you DO NOT blow your nose for 10 days. Blowing your nose could cause an opening or a hole to develop in your sinus lining which we don’t want to happen. You can wipe your nose but refrain from blowing your nose for 10 days to allow the surgery site to heal.

You Can Use A Decongestant Like Claritin or Alegra.

You can use a decongestant such as Claritin or Allegra which is over-the-counter but it’s important that you don’t blow your nose for approximately 10 days. After using the decongestant, you can wipe your nose without blowing.

You Can Use A Saline Nasal Spray To Help Clear Our Your Nose

You can also use Saline Nasal Sprays such as a Ocean Saline. These will help you in clearing out your nose and will provide a clear passage for breathing without blowing your nose.

Sneeze Through Your Mouth

Another helpful tip is to remember that when you do need to sneeze, to try to do so through your mouth rather than through your nose, which will reduce the amount of pressure on your sinus, thus allowing it to heal.

Brush Your Teeth The Night Of Your Surgery

You are encouraged to brush your teeth the night of your surgery and maintain a regular brushing schedule. There should be no impact upon the surgery site and this will help you keep unwanted bacteria to a minimum.

Use The Antibacterial Rinse You Were Given (2 Times A Day)

Please rinse your mouth the anti-bacterial mouth rinse which we prescribed for you. Use this according to the instructions on the bottle which is usually twice a day.

Take Your Antibiotic According To The Prescription

You’ve also been given an antibiotic as a precaution. Please follow the directions on the prescription bottle.

Wishing you a wonderful and easy recovery- Dr. Slavin.
